In an informative follow up to weekend podcast episode 6, Slater Tools Inc. is announcing the increased availability of its new Adjustment Free Rotary Broaching Tool Holder. The company is now stocking four popular sizes of the tool; .625” shank, .750” shank, 12mm shank and 22mm shank. Slater’s new adjustment free design allows the operator to use the tool holder without the need for centering. The new rotary broaching tool holder’s sleek design is the smallest in the industry which eliminates interference and clearance problems, and provides easy access to the grease fitting for maintenance.
Rotary Broaching, also called hex broaching or wobble broaching, uses a precision tool to produce an internal form inside a pre-drilled hole. The result is a polygon form which matches the shape of the broach. For instance, a square broach measuring 5 mm, produces a square hole of the same size. Broaches are available from Slater Tools Inc. as squares, hexagons, splines, serrations and other polygon forms. Broaching is also a popular money saving technique because forms can be created within seconds using the primary machine spindle without having to add secondary machining operations for production.

If you’d like to see some more rotary broaching applications check out the companies at the bottom of the broaching showcase page at http://www.rotarybroaching.com. These companies are all using rotary broaching tools like the ones in this new relelase, but in a wide variety of applications.
Slater Tools Inc. will be displaying their new 0700 series Swiss Type Adjustment Free Rotary Broaching Tool Holders at the 2009 WESTEC Advanced Productivity Exposition in Los Angeles, California. Released in 2008, the 0700 series tool holders are used for producing hexagon and square holes in metal parts while eliminating secondary operations. This technique has long been known to screw machine operators, but has continued to be adapted for Swiss type CNC machines and machining centers. Swiss type tools are important in the aerospace and medical industries, making orthopedic bone screws and small fastener products.
